Funding goes towards bespoke industry and higher education engagements.
In June 2023, CU Adelaide welcomed 17 senior secondary students from Whyalla Secondary College and Port Augusta Secondary School to Adelaide for a bespoke learning experience, incorporating Higher Education options and careers in future industry.
The visit aimed to explore the different pathways available to students, with a particular focus on the role of tertiary education. After meeting with a student recruitment specialist to discuss life at The University of Adelaide, students took a tour around the North Terrace campus. Conversations with current university students gave participants a unique insight into individual personal experiences as well as practical considerations such as the different accommodation options available should they choose to relocate.
The visit included a personalised tour around Government House followed by a private meeting with Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia who answered questions around her own educational and career pathways. The Governor is a Key Learning partner for the CU program and is highly supportive of activities around Civics and Citizenship.
Key Learning Destination Partner, Adelaide Zoo provided a Biodiversity and Climate Human Impacts session and facilitated an overnight stay for the students. During conversations with the General Manager of Zoo Learning, students gained an insight into the multitude of roles that help run such a large organisation.
Finally, the students spent an entire day with The University of Adelaide’s ThincLab, home to more than 50 new ventures in a diverse range of industry sectors. During a business incubator experience, industry experts worked with the students to take on the role of entrepreneurs and start up organisations.
