“From this program I have developed a confidence to step into the world” read our alumni Story with Dua

Meet Dua Anees, a current second year University of Adelaide Nursing student and former Children’s University (CU) Adelaide Graduate. Dua participated in the Passport to Volunteering Program at Roma Mitchell Secondary College after being encouraged by a friend.

Initially shy, Dua soon gained the confidence to, “step (out) into the world.” A confidence that led her to volunteer running writing workshops at her former primary school, also a proud CU Partner School. Dua helped younger students to find their voice and the ability to express themselves on paper.

Dua found teamwork through working with her peers on student workshops and developed her leadership skills, eventually landing her first paid job. “Without CU,” says Dua, “I wouldn’t have had the confidence to put myself out there and apply.”

The University of Adelaide was an easy choice. Attracted by the vast practical experience spread out through the degree and the familiarity of the campus through CU participation. Dua aspires to be a pediatric nurse or nurse practitioner, and we wish her all the best with her future endeavors.

We look forward to welcoming Dua back as a Master of Ceremonies at our November graduation ceremonies.
