H.E.L.P Film Festival 2019

HELP Film Festival 2019

The Theme for the 2019 HELP Film Festival is “Pay it Forward”. We are asking young people to explore the concept of “Pay it Forward” in regards to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness i.e. couch surfing etc and/or young people that are affected by alcohol and other drug use – themselves, family members or friends. The focus will be on young people exploring how small ways of assisting someone else can make changes to a person’s life.

Prospective film makers will be asked to produce a short film (a minimum of 2 minute and maximum of 5 minute durations), each school or community group can submit more than one entry. Films can be produced using phones, tablets, iPad’s or cameras.

Films are judged by a committee and shown on the big screen at Devonport where schools, students, young people, families and community members are invited to come and view the films and celebrate young people’s achievements. There are great prizes to be won for Schools/Colleges/Community Groups and participating young people and this is a valuable way to enhance young people’s project based learning skills in:

  • Team work
  • Digital media
  • Research
  • Community participation
  • Increased knowledge of impacts of stereotypes in the age cohort

Prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st prize = $1000.00 Cheque
  • Runner-up = $500.00 Cheque
  • People’s choice = $1000.00 Cheque

Registration forms are to be submitted by Thursday 3rd May 2019. Completed films are to be submitted by Friday 28th June 2018

The selected films will be screened during National Homelessness Week on the evening of Monday 5th August at C-Max Cinemas in Devonport.
